Children’s Unique Perspectives Shine Through in MTM Art

Posted on November 10, 2019

Meet the Masters students begin each lesson with a multi-media assembly of engaging Powerpoint slides, artist voices and music. The children learn about the fascinating lives and famous works of the Master Artists. They learn vocabulary words related to the artist’s methods and art medium. Next the students practice techniques specific to that artist. The practice worksheets reinforce the material previously presented and prepare them for the art project. After learning the inspiration and techniques of each Master the children are ready for the real fun as the classroom is transformed into an art studio. The teacher leads the students on a step-by-step journey through the art project, often working in the same medium, style or subject matter as the Master. The students’ artwork evolves as they project what they’ve learned. All heard the same presentation, practiced on the same worksheets, and are given the same materials, and yet, in the creation of their masterpiece each one’s inner artist shines with their own unique take on what they learned.

Everyone Loves MTM!

I love MTM because it provides our kids with otherwise unavailable or limited art exposure. It gives them a chance to create and be inspired by amazing artists from different times in history, as well as within different mediums. Being a coordinator for MTM allows me the privilege of providing inspiration and creativity to kids just starting out on their educational journey- they never cease to amaze me with what they are able to express!
