Vejar Elementary Students Meet the Masters

Posted on March 21, 2011

Artist and teacher Jill Suzanne Hatcher, along with parents, students and volunteers, made a mini mural of Andy Warhol-inspired Campbell soup can drawings Thursday night during an event at Vejar Elementary School.

Budding artists at Vejar Elementary School mimicked the works of Andy Warhol, Edward Hopper and Norman Rockwell as part of the Meet the Master’s program.

They colored drawings of Campbell soup cans in a nod to Warhol. Others captured Hopper’s popular ocean theme in their works. Some designed their own versions of a Rockwell cover of “The Saturday Evening Post.”

And after the finishing touches were put on their own masterpieces, Vejar’s multipurpose room was transformed into a gallery of sorts and their work put on display for visiting parents and students to peruse Thursday night.

Everyone Loves MTM!

I used this program for 14 years a volunteer for our elementary school – it was so fun!

Some that I loved include: the Maria Martinez clay project, the Alexander Calder mobile project, the Klimt project with foil, Georgia O’Keefe with the close ups of plant pieces, and the Monet project learning about Impressionism.
