(CNN)ย โ€” More than 120 years after Vincent van Goghโ€™s death, a new painting by the Dutch master has come to light.

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, which holds the largest collection of the artistโ€™s work, announced Monday the discovery of the newly identified painting, a landscape titled โ€œSunset at Montmajour.โ€

โ€œA discovery of this magnitude has never before occurred in the history of the Van Gogh Museum,โ€ the museumโ€™s director, Axel Ruger, said in a statement.

Van Gogh is believed to have completed the relatively large painting in 1888, two years before his death and during โ€œa period that is considered by many to be the culmination of his artistic achievement,โ€ Ruger said.

The picture depicts a landscape in the vicinity of Arles in the south of France, where van Gogh was working at that time, the museum said.

Everyone Loves MTM!

I used MTM in Arkansas about 12 years ago, so I was quite familiar with the program when I needed art curriculum again. The packaging, directions, and techniques of the master artists made implementation straightforward. The Jacob Lawrence materials were especially meaningful because they reinforced the idea that an urban student can be a person of color and an artist. When budgetary cuts impact art curriculum, this is an affordable response that gives students opportunity to replicate outstanding art.
