Feed your childrens’ minds with art

Posted on October 25, 2010

TAMPA – The importance of art for children is backed by national studies that show early exposure to art promotes activity in the brain — which allows children to understand a wide array of subjects.

Though Laura McElroy is the Public Information Officer for the Tampa Police Department, she believes her most important job is being a mother to her 3-year-old daughter, Morgan.

When it comes to molding Morgan’s success, a tool that McElroy considers valuable is art — everything from paint to clay.

“I was putting a paintbrush in her hand as soon as she could sit up because I really want her to express her self creatively,” McElroy said.

Everyone Loves MTM!

I tell my students each week they are getting more art history this year than many students get in university. I love hearing them learn and use words like post Impressionism, realism and complimentary color palette in conversation.

So far, the Georges Seurat pointillism project using sand paper has been the most popular!
