A Treasure of Art Explored in San Diego

Posted on October 21, 2014

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of taking my grandkids to the San Diego Museum of Art located in Balboa Park.  It’s one thing to teach the Master Artists and quite another to walk through museum halls and explore real examples from so many legends.  Matisse, van Gogh, Picasso, Kahlo, O’Keeffe, Gauguin and the list goes on and on.  It was breathtaking to see so many in one exhibit.

Take the time to plan a trip to your local museum to explore all the artists that you can.  Whether you are 11 or 111, it will be an adventure into the “art world” that you will not soon forget.

Featuring masterpieces by more than 40 monumental artists, Gauguin to Warhol includes works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Salvador Dalí, and Frida Kahlo, among others. The scope of the show begins in the late 1800s, featuring milestones of Post-Impressionism by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin, and extends to the mid twentieth century in America with Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell as well as prominent Pop artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Through an impressive and encompassing array of works, the exhibition showcases the major aesthetic and philosophical themes of 20th century art.

Everyone Loves MTM!

On behalf of all the teachers and students of dePortola Elementary School, I’d like to commend you for providing an outstanding first year of Meet the Masters for our school. The quality of your program is excellent. The teachers felt their students truly learned to recognize the works and styles of the great masters that they were introduced to. We appreciated the variety of classroom art projects presented.

Our lecturer was well liked by teachers and students. She is professional and responsive to each age group of students. I also found her to be excellent as our coordinator and workshop presenter. We felt very fortunate that she was with us.

Our principal has also been enthusiastic and supportive of the Meet the Masters program. We both will always be pleased to recommend your program to other elementary schools.
