Tincher Prep Showcases Faith Ringgold Quilt Projects

Posted on April 17, 2014

We love getting feedback from schools using Meet the Masters.  Below are few photos and words from Tincher preparatory School in Long Beach, California.  Please continue to share your success stories (and photos) with Meet the Masters.

Mrs. Schmidt’s 4th grade class did an amazing job completing the Faith Ringgold quilt using California Missions as the theme.  We “stitched” their beautiful artwork together with yarn and it is on display in the hallway outside of their classroom for everyone to enjoy!  With Mrs. Schmidt’s permission, I am attaching a photo.  After their “Meet the Masters” lesson, the class took a field trip to Mission San Juan Capistrano.  Following the field trip, the class wrote postcards to a relative/friend, to share interesting facts about missions and had another chance to draw a picture of a mission on the postcard.

The postcards are displayed around the quilt.  I’ve also attached a photo showing the postcards.

Thank you so much for providing this outstanding program to the scholars at Tincher.  My daughter’s 4th grade class (and I’m sure all the Tincher students) enjoyed learning about the artists this year and have had so much fun with all the projects!  As a Tincher parent, I appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to “Meet the Masters.”  Thank you!

Best regards,

Everyone Loves MTM!

I used this program for 14 years a volunteer for our elementary school – it was so fun!

Some that I loved include: the Maria Martinez clay project, the Alexander Calder mobile project, the Klimt project with foil, Georgia O’Keefe with the close ups of plant pieces, and the Monet project learning about Impressionism.
