Sept. 12-18 is National Arts in Education Week

Posted on September 14, 2010

On July 26, 2010, the U. S. House of Representatives passed a resolution designating the second week of September as β€œArts in Education Week” to promote and showcase the immense role arts education has in producing engaged, successful, and college- and career-ready students. The resolution states:

Arts education, comprising a rich array of disciplines including dance, music, theatre, media arts, literature, design, and visual arts, is a core academic subject and an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students.

Arts Education Partnership has created a hub site for sharing information about National Arts in Education Week – links to partner sites who are planning activities and finding out about arts education policy and practice in states and communities. To learn more, visit the Arts Education Partnership webΒ site.

Everyone Loves MTM!

I used MTM in Arkansas about 12 years ago, so I was quite familiar with the program when I needed art curriculum again. The packaging, directions, and techniques of the master artists made implementation straightforward. The Jacob Lawrence materials were especially meaningful because they reinforced the idea that an urban student can be a person of color and an artist. When budgetary cuts impact art curriculum, this is an affordable response that gives students opportunity to replicate outstanding art.
