SAN DIEGO: CITY COUNCIL OKS 5% ARTS FUNDING INCREASE

Posted on July 25, 2012

SAN DIEGO — Those arts-impact reports are paying off.

In the wake of a recent study by the Americans for the Arts showing the “nonprofit arts and culture industry” in the City of San Diego generated $579 million in annual economic activity and supported 17,817 jobs, the San Diego City Council this week approved Mayor Jerry Sanders’ recommendation to increase the city’s allocation to the arts by 5 percent.

That represents a roughly half-million dollar addition to the budget of the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, from $7,297,983 (last year) to $7,742,108.

“We know that nonprofit arts and culture organizations have a significant impact on our communities, businesses, families, visitors and our economic future,” Sanders said in a prepared statement. “Our city is well served by our nonprofit art and cultural organizations. They enhance our quality of life, attract visitors, create jobs and attract skilled workers, enhance our communities and help educate our children.”

Everyone Loves MTM!

As an artist and educator for over 40 years, I have always prided myself on doing what is right for students. Having the resources that not only teach skills, but the standards and the art history connected to those skills is monumental.

Meet the Masters gives teachers and the students the language to articulate what the work is and what it means. MTM provides the curriculum and the tools to take art education to a different level. In today’s world, art is a means to connect culture, education, and who we are as a people.

Who better to learn from, than the Masters?
