Kids make art you can wear to raise money

Posted on June 8, 2012

At the Children’s Gallery and Arts Center in Homestead, art isn’t just for hanging on the walls.

Amid the paper mache sharks, clay sculptures and bright paintings, the non-profit gallery has launched a new line of clothing and apparel displaying original works by its resident child artists.

The Audacious Sprit line includes colorful t-shirts, leggings, yoga pants, tote bags, and even shower curtains, priced from $20 to $100. The fabric is the type used for high-performance sportswear, so it’s light, soft and comfortable.

The art work is printed entirely on the fabric, so it’s not just an image on the front or back. It’s a concept similar to tie-dye, with crayon marks and brush strokes from the original paintings clearly visible on the fabric.

Everyone Loves MTM!

While I was in elementary school, Meet the Masters visited many times and I was in awe by the whole experience. To this day I still think about the lessons I learned and still have my rendition of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I would love to inspire young students the same way Meet the Masters instructors have inspired me and so many of us.
