Celebrating Faith Ringgold’s Remarkable Impact

Posted on May 16, 2024
Student artists use cut paper quilt designs combined with oil pastel pictures of a favorite memory to imitate Faith’s style.

It’s with a heavy heart we remember Faith Ringgold, who recently passed away at age 93.

She was an icon in both the art world and civil rights. You might know her from the quilts that told the story of her life and passionate activism.

Today, we celebrate her life and art.

Faith wasn’t just an artist. She was a revolutionary. Her pieces weren’t just beautiful. They were powerful. They told stories of inequality, strength, and hope.

Imagine bringing such depth into your classroom!

At Meet the Masters, we keep her legacy alive. Kids learn to create, express, and advocate through art. Faith taught us that every pattern and every color tells a story.

What story will you help your students tell?

Our students learn Faith’s techniques by using cut paper and oil pastels to create their own quilt masterpieces. These art projects become personal narratives, influenced by Faith’s storytelling.

You’ll love seeing their creativity shine. It’s more than art. It’s a conversation about life, values, and memories. We see young artists discuss what matters to them. It’s truly inspiring!

Here’s why Faith’s lessons are crucial:

  • Each piece tells a unique story.
  • They learn the language of visual elements.
  • They connect with African-American heritage.

Her lesson is a favorite, year after year.

Why? Because it’s powerful. It’s relevant. And it’s transformative.

So, as we mourn her loss, let’s also celebrate her impact. Let’s keep teaching, learning, and creating. Faith would want us to push forward and continue to make art that matters.

Thank you for keeping her spirit alive in your classrooms.

Creatively yours,

Meet the Masters

Everyone Loves MTM!

I wanted to tell you how wonderful the program is going here at our school.  The children are very engaged and enthusiastic at the start of every artist.  We are continually learning and developing new art skills.  The knowledge that the children are obtaining about different time periods and different styles of art is amazing.  The program is super easy to follow and the cost of materials for the projects has been minimal, which is great for a school on a tight budget.  I just wanted to say thank you for offering such an educational, user friendly, and economically sound program to the schools of this nation.

Thank You!
